Committee:

We are a not-for-profit organisation that provides services to disabled children in the Whangarei area

There are 7 paid staff – Operations Manager, Head Instructor, Horse Manager, Stable Manager, an Instructor, Instructor/handyman and a groundsman.

Our herd of 13 horses which the RDA owns consists of minis right through to Lofty our largest horse who is 17.2 hands high. They range in age from 7years to 25 years old.

We have 120 riders on our books and are able to ride 80 each term.

People apply from schools, physios, Occupational Therapists, Doctors, hospitals and parents/grandparents.

Each rider has a programme worked out according to their particular goals and each term we reassess these goals and make new ones. At the end of each term we have a Fun Day.  We hold games that the riders compete in and then each rider gets a certificate and a ribbon.

Heather Timmins

Head Instructor

Heather Timmins has been here since 2014. We were very lucky to get her as she has worked for years at Kaitaia RDA and so knew the ropes.  She is in charge of the riders goals, arena planning and reporting in the riders files.

Jan Smith

Instructor

Jan Smith has been here since 2014.  She works in the arena mainly as an Instructor but does do a lot of work up in the stables.

Mathew Karauia

Groundsman

Mathew Karauia has been here since 2013.  He started one day a week, but we now have him 2 days a week.  He is wonderful at keeping the Centre look clean and very tidy.  His job includes lawns, gardens, weed eating, spreading metal and any other jobs required.

Colin Dunn

Chairman –

Jim Blood has been a volunteer here 2 days a week for 10 years.  His job on the committee is to bring any volunteer issues to the meetings so we can keep everyone happy.
